DaDo 2.0 Laser Welder FAQ: Boost Your Jewellery Workshop Productivity
Freeform Fabrication’s Jack sat down with product specialist Matt to answer the questions jewellers ask most often about the DaDo 2.0. From manufacturing tacking and casting porosity to silver welding, argon gas, training, and leasing—here is everything you need to know.
What is the DaDo 2.0 and What Can It Do?
The DaDo 2.0 is a compact, benchtop laser welder engineered for small jewellery workshops, repair specialists, and boutique manufacturers.
For Jewellery Manufacturing: It excels at tacking pieces before soldering and filling porosity in castings (such as pinholes) instantly without having to send pieces back to the foundry, saving up to a full week of delay.
For Jewellery Repairs: It easily handles retipping, reclawing, resizing rings (including platinum with zero solder lines), jump rings, bolt rings, and fine chains. Because it delivers localized heat, you can work directly adjacent to heat-sensitive gemstones and costume metals without unsetting stones or destroying enamels.
How Does the DaDo 2.0 Differ from the Original DaDo?
The DaDo 2.0 introduces three major technical upgrades:
50% More Power: Essential for silver welding. Because silver rapidly dissipates heat, the extra power compensates for conductivity and makes ring resizing vastly easier.
25 Power Settings (vs. 12): Offers finer beam control. Power Setting 1 on the DaDo 2.0 is lighter than on the original, allowing ultra-delicate repairs.
Faster Firing Speed: Offers 1 or 4 shots per second (compared to 1 shot per second on the original), allowing you to complete long seams and resizes in a fraction of the time.
Supported Metals & Argon Gas Requirements
The DaDo 2.0 handles gold, platinum, silver, steel, titanium, and costume metals (such as brass). Titanium requires an optional Argon Gas Kit pre-ordered with the machine. When the foot pedal is pressed, it purges the chamber with argon before firing the laser, preventing oxidation and dramatic sparking.
Key Machine Features & Water System
10x Optical Microscope: Provides precise target viewing for pinpoint accuracy.
Power Controls: Adjust power via an internal black dial or the free iOS/Android app. An internal LED light changes color (lime green to red) to indicate current power.
Beam Size Adjuster: Dial in a small beam for max penetration, or widen the beam to smooth over joins during final finishing.
Sealed Water Tank: Takes standard deionised water. Because it is a sealed cooling system, it only needs a quick level check about once a year.
Safety, Support & Warranty
Risk is extremely low when working under 10x magnification. The DaDo 2.0 includes a 2-year warranty covering everything except the flash bulb (rated for ~5 million shots). Annual servicing is not required—simply keep the lens disc clean and protect the machine during polishing.
Training & Support Included: Freeform Fabrication provides pre-dispatch testing, setup check-in calls, 6-month investment reviews, and access to 1/2-day travelling workshops or full 1-day private training at our Hertford HQ.
